William George Armstrong was born in 1879 in Boston, Massachusetts. He graduated from Harvard University in 1901 and subsequently studied law at Harvard College. From 1905 to 1907 he was associated with the law firm of Howe, Higginson & Peters as a partner, and from 1907 to 1940 he practiced law alone. In addition to his legal practice, Armstrong took a keen interest in politics and was a lifelong Democrat
In 1905 he married Mary Agnes Hastings, the daughter of the owner of the Boston Evening Transcript. Armstrong died on Jan. 26, 1974 at age ninety-one.
